Solar Water Heat Systems

Solar energy is not just about electricity. In fact, you can harness and use solar energy for heat applications, with nearly five times the efficiency of solar electric systems. As a landlord, you can use this heat energy for hot water production as well as other heating needs.

Hot water systems use two elements: heat collectors and water storage tanks. The heat collectors we utilize are high efficiency solar heating tubes, which employ parallel rows of break-resistant glass tubes with special metal fins (blades) inside. These coated fins capture up to 85% of the sun's energy, heating the blades tremendously (typically 190 degrees F, even in winter months). Tubes pass through the blades, typically containing antifreeze fluids. These circulate through the system, back to an insulated hot water heater, where the heat exchange occurs. Forced air heating systems can also benefit, by using the heating coils to produce additional heat.

Choosing the Right Solar Heat System

Virtually all environments can benefit from solar heating tubes. The number of tube arrays required varies based on your heating needs and available space for solar heating tubes. Specific requirements of the system, including whether they used pumped or passive circulation, will depend on the building and your requirements.

Potential Cost Savings & Increased Revenue

EmmyEnergy solar heating systems deliver tremendous savings. With a cost recoup cycle of just 2-5 years (including tax rebates, accelerated depreciation and more), the system actually yields a higher return than most investments available in the marketplace.

In addition to the cost savings, there is a tremendous revenue opportunity. With occupancy rates low (and heading lower in most areas), reduced rental rates and more concessions being sought by tenants, you need a competitive edge over other landlords in attracting new tenants. Offering a tenant space in a green energy building is extremely attractive. Some genuinely seek out green energy real estate, while others want to market the fact that they are "going green." Whatever the motivation, by offering a green building, you are increasing your property's desirability and increase the changes of bringing in new tenants.

Maintenance Considerations

Solar heating tube systems require very little maintenance - with regular maintenance from every 3 to 5 years. There are no moving parts and very little service is required. With a completely self-contained system, circulating anti-freeze fluids throughout, the systems runs for years with little care. Basic inspections should be performed periodically to identify any unexpected issues that arise.
