Solar heating tubes are an extremely efficient technology that captures up to 85% of the energy of the sun (compared to 15-19% for solar electric panels). The energy captured is used as heat, as opposed to electricity.
Using vacuum-sealed tubes, the system captures the sun's energy. The sun's energy superheat the special fluid in the tubes and transfers the heat in the fluid through your hot water system. The superheated fluid can reach temperatures of up to 190 degrees F.
The cost of solar heating tubes is lower than solar electric systems, and with a higher energy yield, it can recoup its own cost in just 2-3 years (vs. 5-10 years for solar electric). Continued power savings directly impacts your bottom line, with tremendous savings to heating and water costs year after year with minimal maintenance and care.
Throughout the year, you and your tenants have needs for heat. In winter months, the building must maintain certain temperatures, with high oil and heating costs. Year round, you need hot water. Hot water systems consume significant amounts of energy, keeping a reserve of hot water at a certain temperature, regardless of demand. By leveraging the power of the sun, solar heating tubes use induction systems to transfer heat from the system into your hot water systems and forced hot air systems. Feeds into your heating system can be disabled in spring and summer months, diverting all of the energy into hot water.
Tenants focus on green energy, and including green energy sources in your building attracts tenants who have many options available to them. Whether they genuinely care about the environment or simply choose to market themselves as a green company, the reality is the same - your green energy building uses less power, reduces its own carbon footprint and offers tenants the opportunity to take steps that are positive for the environment.
From your prospective, you lower your operating costs with a system strongly subsidized by the government and utilities. Your investment in the system is generally recouped in just 2-5 years, with pure savings for years to come. Factor in the additional tenants you may attract, increasing your occupancy rate, and your recoup cycle may turn into months.
